I go to a meeting. Its very liberal and open. I like the people there, but the more one attends the more people seem to feel I should get involved in the running of the meeting. Call it selfish, but I go to things that I enjoy and its the not having to get necessarily involved and just participating in the meeting alone, that I enjoy. I am aware that some people work hard for the meeting but I am not sure that's for me in this moment in time. What is a nice way to tell people? I cannot help but think what ever I say someone will not like it.

Tell them! ~smiles~ No fear or apprhension will help the situation, if they say your dick then you don't really need them...however if you let them push you into it you will eventually have resentments more than likely and get tired and burnt on it anyways ~smles~. It's not selfish, it's knowing how you work and adjusting to it ~smiles~.
Just do it! ~smiles~ |

Well...Nice..shmice..I did that for many years. The ones who wouldn't get upset , wouldn't get upset if I just simply told them no. The ones that do would get upset if I re-created the Psalms or created a Treatise on Love to explain why I didn't want to do it.....so.......
Be yourself...tell them you don't want to. I don't see a need for a reason. (Are they asking you or telling you?) I go to a meeting. Its very liberal and open. Thanks everyone.
Its not that I am not keen but I would love to work more on the spiritual side of things then the more office type tasks. I am not good when it come to tying myself down to one organisation, no matter how liberal they are. However, I would love to be able to set up a Universal church and open it to all faiths to practice. Have not got a clue how I would do though. I cannot afford a building. Anyone any experience of this? |

Hi PETE,
Your first question presented an interesting dilemma, one that most spiritual or introspective people face fairly often. In my case, I used to joke for years that I was anti-social, that it runs in my family. But the fact of the matter was that I was creatively preoccupied by my own inner questions and projects (and yes! that kind of self-absorption is unfortunately one of the paths one does sometime have to walk down). Anyway, now that I've progressed in my creative work (fiction writing), I am confident enough to say to people, "I do not have infinite energy and my writing uses up a lot of it." I'm amazed how often people just smile and politely accept my answer. As for your second question, I'm a bit confused. Wouldn't starting a church result in even more work for you ? Regards, IRA |

~ Well, probably wouldn't be too much work if you find those that enjoy organising & such.
Of course just a social group that meets in a coffee shop or bar could be a 'church' too... It's not the building or lack there-of { parks are nice! } it's the people. Find neat people. Take turns bringing cookies & tea { or meat & beer, whatever! } & make it easy for everyone. |

I think the difference is. If I work for an established church, in some way I always find I have to compromise myself by having to adopt established practices. However, if it was a universal ULC type church then there would be no established beliefs or practices of the church because they would adopt to whoever is using the church building. It would not get in the way of my personal journey and allowing others to follow theirs and would not feel like work or that I was compromising in anyway. In fact it would feel like fun. A bit like a ULC forum.
