Music can have such a profound effect on emotions, it's rather amazing. Forgive me if not all my points come through clear, sort of drifting in attention dispite me using the keyboard.
The reason I'm drifting is the music I have playing, even when my body is active, my mind is kind of split between forming words and just not paying attention to what I'm doing. Even doing this stuff my spirit, for lack of a better word right now, feels lifted. I feel both physical and astral bodies at the same time, can be interesting to say the least when you feel fingers and paws as you work. I wonder what kind of experiences everyone else has as they listen to music, and if anyone else has felt its effects on their spirit. |

Absolutely fascinating topic (and one I wish I had brought up).
To answer, yes, I have. There has been more than one occasion I have had to stop playing certain albums while driving because they take me somewhere quite easily. I've thought of it as 'Praying through the ears,' although I'd like to find something a bit better for it. |

Music plays an impotant part in my spiritual life. In my religion prayers are chanted, the "pujas" (religious services) are done with music, the Srimad Bhagavad Gita is the "Song of the Lord." I am a musician. Music is my life. Singing the Glories of the Divine is something very sacred. OM!

When I was in college I found that listening to Bach helped me study math, but didn't help me write papers.
Rock helps me exercise. New Age music can guide meditation. Standards from the Swing Jazz genre are energetic and happy. Grateful Dead tunes are relaxed and happy. Bluegrass has a great energy. And then there's music for love... |

Music has always been a part of my life. I confess that most of it has been in the rock'n'roll even though my love for music started listening to Hank Williams SR. when he was still alive.
In recent years I have found that I enjoy best the music that fits my mood at the time. I have a collection of many different styles of music and when I do what to listen I can always find something that fits my mood. BTW I listened to hard rock when it was time to write a paper. Worked for me. I can't really say that I use any music in conjunction with meditation though. I think that it actually is a distraction for me. Peace & Love! |

Music helps me on many levels, both listening to it and playing it. In fact, my best writing is done when I have music playing in the background, especially new age music. Playing music helps me when I'm depressed. I also use to use music to help with journeying, especially something with a moderate, steady beat.

Music has certainly helped me in making the backdrop for most of my writing. I mostly use new age for when writing things like scenes where the main characters are in need of guidance or helping guide others. I use full orchestra music for fighting and escapes and certain rock artist to help me come up with a protagonist.
If I can't get into the woods for meditation I would often turn to new age artist, or even some rock groups that do spiritual music on the side or at the end of their CDs. Soft music is enough most of the time to for me to quickly drift into altered consciousness. Interesting that after a point you barely hear the music and more of it's rhythm. Might need to use music soon to distract me from time passing as I work. |

Sometimes the lyrics and music combine into a really powerful feeling of shared emotion.
For me, The Who - Won't Get Fooled Again, does it every time. http://youtube.com/watch?v=zydAs5bRW1U Gives me hope. |
