Default What is the first name?
What is the first name that comes to mind when I say compassion or mercy?

I noticed something and I am curious

This may be a cockeyed way of looking at/answering the question, but William Makepeace Thackeray wrote, 'Mother is the name for God in the lips and hearts of small children.'

I thought Mother Teresa. I think she is a good canidate....
But it was very interesting to see all the different answers. And they were all great examples of compassion or mercy.

OK, now that some of us have answered, what did you notice originally to post this? I have been wondering since I saw the thread, so please share.

To answer your question Kelly, I posted a response in a thread that Fred started about compassion and mercy and used Mother Teresa as an example. Later in another thread I noticed that a day or so earlier that Fred had used Mother Teresa as an example of compassion and mercy.

I found it interesting that several people found Mother Teresa to be the "ultimate" example of compassion and mercy. Although dieties are perfectly acceptable answers I was really looking for more modern peoples.

Who says Mother Teresa wasn't a 'diety'?
I for one, find her to be an avatar on par with the others.
Because, if every person were to live like Jesus, Buddha, Mother Teresa, Ghandi, et al, instead of talking about it....we'd have a perfect world, folks.

Yeah, I know: Good luck with that...

That brings up a very good, but blasphemous point.

(The opposite of a small truth is plainly false, but the opposite of a great truth is also true...)

Don't love Jesus. Be Him.

That makes sense, but I can't think of anyone more modern than Mother Teresa as an outstanding representation of those qualities. Can you?
