Today begins in the Vedic-Hindu world nine nights (navaratri) dedicated to the worship of God in the aspect of Goddess (Divine Mother).
The first three nights are dedicated to Divine Mother as Durga Ma/Kali Ma. In the words of Swami Shivananda Saraswati "the Goddess of strength for protection and valour." The second three nights Lakshmi Mata -- the Goddess of wealth (not just material wealth) -- is worshipped. The last three nights are dedicated to Saraswati Ma, the Goddess of knowledge (Gnosis). The tenth day is Vijaydashmi -- the day of victory -- representing spiritual enlightenment and the conquering of evil in our lives. In the Sanatana Veda Dharma we see the Divine in many aspects: Brahman, the Absolute beyond all Names, Forms, and definitions; Ishwar, the Lord in Male aspect; and Shakti, the Female aspect, Goddess or Divine Mother. Even the Bible acknowledges the Female aspect of God. In Genesis it says, "So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female God created them" (Genesis 1:27). Thus implying that "maleness" and "femaleness" are found in the essence of God. In Isaiah the Maternal nature of God is expressed, "As one whom his mother comforts, so will I comfort you..." (Isaiah 66:13). In the Srimad Bhagavad Gita the Beloved One speaks to Mankind and says, "I am the Father and Mother of this universe..." (Srimad Bhagavad Gita 9:17). May Divine Mother bless us all with Understanding, Love, and Compassion! Hermano Luis Morviví Hermitage |

Querido Luis!
I think that Hinduism is such a beautiful, generous, and giving belief system. It is one of the few religions of the world that literally welcomes everyone. You can move into a Hindu community and the neighbors will welcome you, invite you into their temple, even ask you to bring an image of your God, as they welcome so many. They value all life, wisdom, marriage, and the soul... It's a wonderful culture. Tu Hermana, Gladys |
