![]() The pontiff spoke against PAP's Geylang Condom Policy. The PAP is very un-Christian and PAP Govt disallowed Christian Procession on street while they allowed Taoist Processions. ![]() Condemn the PAP to HELL! ![]() http://www.straitstimes.com/Breaking...ry_351815.html March 19, 2009 Condom disageement with Pope PARIS - FRANCE, Germany and the UN agency charged with fighting Aids disagreed with the pope's comment about condoms, saying on Wednesday that they are a fundamental tool in preventing the spread of the HIV virus. France 'expresses its very strong concern about the consequences of the statements by Benedict XVI,' French Foreign Ministry spokesman Eric Chevallier said. France is a traditionally Catholic country but is relatively liberal on social issues such as birth control. During his first visit to Africa as pope, Benedict said in Cameroon on Tuesday that the distribution of condoms could endanger public health and that they are not the solution to the fight against Aids. 'On the contrary, it increases the problem,' the pope said. In Berlin, German Health Minister Ulla Schmidt and Development Minister Heidemarie Wieczorek-Zeul issued a joint declaration criticizing the pope's comments and underlining the importance of condom use in developing nations. 'Condoms save lives, in Europe as well as on other continents,' the ministers said. 'Modern assistance to the developing world today must make access to family planning available to the poorest of the poor - especially the use of condoms. Anything else would be irresponsible.' In Geneva, the UN Aids fighting agency said that condoms are an important part of efforts against Aids. It said prevention includes receiving information about the virus that causes Aids, being faithful to one partner and other measures. -- AP |

World Health Assembly: Pope Benedict "wrong" Sat Mar 21, 9:17 pm ET World Health Assembly: Pope Benedict "wrong" AFP – Pope Benedict XVI watches Angolan dancers in Luanda. World Health Assembly President, Guyana's Health … GEORGETOWN (AFP) – World Health Assembly President, Guyana's Health Minister Leslie Ramsammy, condemned Pope Benedict's call for ending condom use in the fights against AIDS, saying he was trying to sow confusion. "The statement by the Pope is inconsistent with science, it's inconsistent with our experiences and it is not in sync with what Catholics have experienced and believe," Ramsammy told a news conference. The Health Minister, who is regarded by the Pan American Health Organisation (PAHO) as a leading advocate in the fight against HIV and AIDS, accused the leader of the Roman Catholic Church of attempting to "create confusion" and "impede" proven strategies in the battle against the disease. Declaring the position by the Pope on condom use as "absolutely and unequivocally wrong," Ramsammy recommended the continued use of condoms as part of an overall strategy that includes education, fidelity and monogamy. The Health Minister said he planned to rally support among colleague health ministers of the 15-nation Caribbean Community (Caricom), which is predominantly Roman Catholic. "Whilst I would hope that Catholics would continue to be extremely supportive of their church and the pope ... on this issue, they (should) rely on the evidence, and we need at this time to come out forcefully with the evidence to demonstrate that condoms and lifestyle matter," said Ramsammy. Pope Benedict XVI said Tuesday on his way to Africa that condoms were not the answer in the continent's battle against HIV-AIDS, his first such public pronouncement on the delicate issue of condom use. |

Vatican backdown on Pope's condom view Richard Owen and Ruth Gledhill | March 19, 2009 Article from: The Times THE Vatican backtracked today on the Pope's rejection of condoms as a means of preventing AIDS ¿ a climbdown interpreted by some as a rare admission of papal fallibility. Yesterday he told reporters accompanying him on his trip to Africa that AIDS “is a tragedy that cannot be overcome by money alone, and that cannot be overcome through the distribution of condoms, which even aggravates the problems”. Taken aback by outrage worldwide, the Holy See altered the Pope’s remark today to read that condoms merely “risked” aggravating the problem. The Vatican website published an edited text of the Pope’s question-and- answer session on the flight to Cameroon, the day after a French reporter had questioned the Pope as he flew to Africa on how to tackle the AIDS epidemic. It was that question that prompted the unqualified response that condoms aggravate the problem. By changing that to “risks aggravating”, the message was softened. The website at first also altered the Italian word the Pope used for condoms, from “preservativi” to “profilattici”. It is not clear whether “preservatives” — the usual Italian term for condoms — was deemed too colloquial, or whether “prophylactics” was considered not simply more polite but more general, since it could be taken to encompass other forms of “safeguard against disease”. Subsequently the Italian word was rendered back to preservativi. All Vatican press conferences are conducted in Italian, which the German-born Pope speaks fluently and of which Vatican-accredited reporters are also expected to have a good command. Reporters who recorded the interview on the papal plane said the recordings showed the Pope had used the word “preservativi” and not “profilattici”. In addition he had not said that reliance on condoms “risked” aggravating the problem, as the amended version had it, but rather that it “even aggravated it” or, as some media translated it, “increased” it. In Cameroon Father Federico Lombardi, the papal spokesman, continued to defend the Pope’s remarks — in whatever form — saying the pontiff was merely continuing the line taken by his predecessors. He said the Pope maintained that the distribution of condoms was “not in reality the best way” to tackle AIDS. L’Osservatore Romano, the Vatican newspaper, said in a front-page editorial that the media had reduced the Pope’s African trip to just “one aspect”, the controversy over how to combat AIDS. The Pope’s speeches and homilies as released by the Vatican are normally regarded as sacrosanct. He is deemed to have delivered the officially released written version even if he does not do so for any reason, or if he omits parts of the written text. Jon O’Brien, president of the US-based Catholics for Choice, welcomed the change as an admission that the Pope is not infallible on the issue and is willing to acknowledge his mistakes. Mr O’Brien said: “The Pope has now admitted that he is unsure as to whether condoms will help alleviate the spread of HIV. Where there is doubt there is freedom and Catholics can now make up their own minds as to whether they can use them or not. Indeed, the vast majority of Catholics have already made this call and use condoms to protect themselves and their partners against sexually transmitted infections, including HIV. “We call on the Pope to revisit the teachings on condoms with a view to lifting the ban.” Mr O’Brien added: “It took the church hierarchy 359 years to stop continuing the line taken by their predecessors on Galileo. We hope that this error does not take so long to change.” |

Pope's condom comments could fuel HIV/AIDS Fri Mar 20, 1:28 pm ET Pope's condom comments could fuel HIV/AIDS AFP – Pope Benedict XVI (L) waves from the Popemobile to Angolan supporters cheering for him after his arrival … GENEVA (AFP) – The International AIDS Society on Friday condemned Pope Benedict XVI's denunciation of condoms as outrageous and insulting, warning that his comments could fuel HIV infection in devout Africa. IAS Executive Director Craig McClure pointed out that 17 percent of the total population practises Catholicism in Africa, the continent hardest hit by the HIV/AIDs pandemic. "Catholics throughout Africa rely on the spiritual guidance of the Pope," McClure said in a statement. "To suggest that condom use contributes to the HIV problem is not merely contrary to scientific evidence and global consensus, it contributes to fueling HIV infection and its consequences - sickness and death. "Such outrageous comments are not appropriate coming from the highest office in the hierarchy of the Catholic Church," he added. The society brings together HIV/AIDS professionals and organises the biennial international AIDS conferences that are a major platform for scientific research and best practices to fight the pandemic. While the Roman Catholic Church's historic stance against contraception was known, it was the first time that a pope had spoken out publicly against the use of condoms to prevent HIV infection for more than 30 years, the IAS said. Pope Benedict XVI sparked global condemnation with his comments as he began his first visit to Africa as pontiff on Tuesday Benedict said on the plane taking him to Cameroon that AIDS "cannot be overcome through the distribution of condoms, which even aggravates the problems." The IAS insisted that condoms are a critical, cheap and proven element in HIV prevention. "Instead of spreading ignorance, the Pope should use his global position of leadership to encourage young people, who are our future, to protect themselves and others from HIV infection using all the tools we have at our disposal, including condoms," said IAS president Julio Montaner. "His remarks are insulting to the tireless efforts of committed scientific, public health and human rights leaders around the world to protect the poorest of the poor from HIV infection." |

Your correct on this. The usage of condoms as a means of protection against veneral diseases is then out of the question, unless your partner has a disease in which case he/she has been cheating or porbably had it before marriage. ![]() So what do they do, to repress their sexual desires? their earthly desires? ![]() |
