I was there! they placed newspapers and towels on the floor so we wouldn't pray on the hot asphalt, I love Egyptian Christians and although I am Muslim I would die defending any one of them.

Christian or not it's nice to see people just being good to each other.

Being kind to others is the staple of most religions. Too bad there are people who don't realize or practice that.

Exactly. As a Christian, I hate when we forget that we're all just people regardless of religion or nationality.. People who deserve kindness and respect

When anyone says "As a <religion/atheist>" they usually follow up with an obvious opinion about their beliefs.
I see this as missing the point a little bit. What you are trying to say is that people need to be altruistic. Altruism is the ideal here, and Altruism is blind. We should be happy people of other faiths are helping eachother, but it's like the racist argument. Racism will always be around if I still differentiate race, in the same way we are differentiating religion here.

Egyptian Muslims protected Coptic Christians while they celebrated Christmas.
It's good to see Muslims and Christians supporting each other in this way.

It's not really rare: it's the exact same behaviour that causes people from different religions to be at each others throats at other times.
Usually your religion is 'us' and the other religion is 'them'. Currently in Egypt, because there's a shared threat, 'us' is anyone protesting and 'them' is the government.
It's just humans being human.

I worry that this picture will be nothing but a memory when the next government assumes power. The Muslims and the Christians have set aside their differences (for now) to fight a common enemy. Once that is taken care of, they'll resume fighting each other like they always have.

One hand washes the other. I am reminded when Muslims volunteered to be human body shields for Christians after someone bombed a cathedral. This was also in Egypt I believe.
