Back in the Day, it seemed like every thrid car was an exotic or Rolls.
I had a Junior High Teacher at Goddard that drove a Delorean (Back to the Future Car) and I remember seeing a Ferrari (Magnum PI Car) parked along Big Spring Street Every Day. It was also not uncommon to see a Rolls parked at the Furr's (which is now Dunlaps in Midland). Personally, I liked having a Sakowitz (now Dillards). To walk through the store and see a $23,000 mink coat or a $12,000 designer dress on a manequin was downright odd. Another vogue thing were these private vaults. There was one in the shopping center by the Albertsons / Westlake. It was next to what is now the Around the Clock Fitness. I remember when it was broken into (an inside job). Later I remember walking through the empty facility marveling at the hole cut in the steel plate above the vault. There truly was an odd sense of insanity in Midland during those times. |
