An outspoken British Liberal Democrat party peer who declared that Israel would not last forever resigned from her post as the party whip on Wednesday after rejecting a call from Nick Clegg to apologize.


Britain's The Guardian newspaper reported that Lady Tonge told the party leadership that she could not accept the ultimatum from the deputy prime minister because she stood by her remarks.

Her move, which came as the Board of Deputies of British Jews condemned Tonge's remarks as "sinister and abhorrent," means she no longer holds the post of Liberal Democrat whip in Britain's House of Lords...

Tonge, who was fired from a party post in 2004 when she suggested she could consider becoming a suicide bomber, sparked the row after raising questions about the future of Israel.

She told a meeting at Middlesex University last week: "Beware Israel. Israel is not going to be there forever in its present form. One day, the United States of America will get sick of giving 70 billion pounds sterling a year to Israel to support what I call America's aircraft carrier in the Middle East – that is Israel. One day, the American people are going to say to the Israel lobby in the USA: enough is enough."

At last poisoned Tonge gets the boot! It should have happened years ago. She was sacked from her post in the House of Commons by then Lib Dem leader, Charles Kennedy; strongly criticised by the next leader, Ming Campbell and should have had the whip withdrawn by the current leader and deputy PM, Nick Clegg when she opened her ridiculous mouth about the Haiti 'organ theft' libel. Instead, she was demoted from her role as health spokesman in the House of Lords.

The daft bat goes on about the 'scars' she bears due to the actions of the 'Israel lobby', seemingly unable to understand that if she continually blames British Jews for anything she dislikes about Israel (which is everything) right-thinking people - not her imaginary 'lobby' - will notice and react.

The LibDems have got shot of their offender and although I welcomed Labour leader Ed Milliband's condemnation of Tonge, he needs to address those of his own party who, in word and deed, are of the same mindset.

In March 2009 Tonge joined a six-person delegation of British politicians which met with Hamas political leader Khaled Meshaal in Syria. Tonge told an interviewer that their goal was to force the British government to talk to Hamas and pressure the United States to do likewise.
