JERUSALEM, May 31, 2011 (WAFA) – The Palestinian Authority (PA) said Tuesday that a $428 million plan for East Jerusalem will help its almost 300,000 Palestinian residents to remain in the occupied city and even develop economically.

President Mahmoud Abbas’ bureau chief, Hussein Al-Araj, told reporters in Jerusalem that the PA had allocated the money in its new 2011-2013 development plan with a hope that Arab, Muslim and international donor countries would pick up the tap and contribute towards the city’s development.

He said the European Union started this process with a grant worth a little over 6 million euros signed Tuesday in Ramallah and directed toward projects in East Jerusalem, including 2 million euros for legal aid to Palestinians seeking to stop Israeli measures against them in courts.
