Default Arno Schmidt: Collected Stories
Arno Schmidt, Collected Stories (trans John E. Woods): from the late 50s and early 60s, the former more conventional, the latter language on acid, etched unorthographically: to do with translation directly (as Schmidt was) (and with a bit of performance in New Year's Eve Adventure). How possible to translate this and make it work? but it does. (add a + for the latter stories)

(as the above was cloned from Recently Completed, I'll replicate my followup from Poetry in Translation [which would seem a subset of poetry in motion, the other rigid transforms being reflection and rotation, but I digress ...])

Poetry translation as performance art: a coupla grafs from Arno Schmidt's "New Year's Eve Adventure", adventuresomely Englished by John E. Woods:

: "Nur wenig frommt's, da? ich, ein m??'ger F?rst, / am stillen Heerd hier, an dem kargen Strand, / bejahrtem Weib gesellt, dem rohen Pack / ein viel zu gutes Recht mit W?rde sprech' / Das scharrt & schl?ft & fri?t ? und kennt mich nicht !>, ? Okay, translate that ! And be equally masterful and instantaneous about it; or . . . !" (And behind him the Greek , ? I decided 'twere better to make a stab at it; if only for practice : case one would ever end up again as a POW or in some other sorta concentration camp; and some megalomaniacal warden were to develop a taste for a court jester. So furrow brow; & soloic stammer) ? :

<font size="2">: " ? (here he nodded, well-pleased; a noble word, , is it not ?) ? " (a supple bow : and I won some time while he vainly attempted to suppress a smile of deluded grandeur) ?
