I had asked a question in the Denmark section about how they manage to keep money out of politics. Here is what he sent me:"The thing about Denmark is that our politicians aren't ivy league billionaires or sons of oil tycoons, they are generally a broad representation of the danish population, you will see ministers riding their bike to parliament, you have everything from doctors, masons, elderly caretakers, young graduate law students, school teachers etc. Danish politicians are some of the "worst" paid in the EU, earning only 1.9 times the national average. To me this means that social cohesion is preserved. It ensures that politicians aren't in it for the wrong reasons, and the more the politicians mirror the general population, the more we can relate to each other the more of an interest the politicians will have in working for us, instead of for themselves and large corporations.I believe that social cohesion is key to preserving trust, safety and overall stability in society. The larger the gap becomes between rich and poor, the larger gap becomes between our politicians and the general population the worse off we will become as a society as a whole. The rich don't trust the poor, the poor don't trust the rich everyone works for their own interests - creates tension and instability and violence - like you see all over the world all the time. If the people don't trust the government and the politicians don't trust the people then what do we have to work with?"http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;.
