Family Spend Days Trying To Report a Crime

Apparent apathy amongst the police has once again left one family disheartened and upset at not being taken seriously when reporting a robbery.

The Knott family own Interpost in La Marina village. On Wednesday morning at 10.10am they had a visit from three men they believe to be of Moroccan origin asking to use the copier machine. As Sue turned her back on the counter the others in the store were distracted leaving the counter open for a young boy to reach over and take her daughter’s bag. As Sue spoke to the man he said he did not need anything copying anymore and the three left. It was only after this strange occurrence that she realised what had happened. “Danielle’s bag was not on display but one of them had obviously spied it. She had around 100€ in cash and her watch in there as well as other personal little bits, which is so upsetting.”

In shock Sue sought advice from a neighbour for help in calling and communicating with the police in San Fulgencio. “They really didn’t want to know and said it was not under them and we had to call Santa Pola which we did. They send they would send someone out.” When the ‘Leader’ spoke to the family at 4pm later that day, they were still waiting.

They made a visit to the police station on urbanisation La Marina the following day, where Sue says they were more helpful but were apologetic as it was out of their jurisdiction and it was in fact Santa Pola police who they needed to report the crime to. After a lot of stress and hard work, the theft was eventually reported by the end of the week and were later told police will come out if the criminal activity is in progress when they call, not after.

Wishing to warn others of this bizarre situation the Knott’s want to remind others to be vigilant and aware of what is going on around them. Danielle would also like to put out a plea for anyone who may have seen her bag dumped after it was stolen. It is a black medium sized bag with solid, short straps and gold writing. Any possessions which may be recovered will mean a lot to the 16 year-old.
