Default Potted Plants
we found it virtually impossible to keep our plants ok if they are in pots when we used house as holiday home.

we has an auto water system but they either still got too much water or not enough.

if you can plant them properly in ground with auto system this maybe better.

or go for large pots, keep the pots out of the sun or the roots will fry.

We have planted cacti since 2 years now and they stay ok all year round.
We only visit GA max 4 times per year.
Until now they have grown every time we arrive.

Hi Kurt, do you plant your cacti in pots? We have a solarium and have been trying to think what to plant there.

We are on Altomar 2 and we have a box of Aquagest in front of our drive.
On top of this box a pot is build with in the bottem a small drain for the excess water.
We used special potting compost for cacti and everytime we visit GA we poor cactus fertilizer in the pot.
After 1 day they show their beautiful colors again.

Our Hibiscus (in a pot) need lots of water in summer, however the Bourganvillea and Palms (in beds) seem to thrive the worse you treat them!

If you have a keyholder, ask them to pay particular attention to the Hibiscus (at least once a day during dry periods) and the other two once a week.

We found the Compo Sana compost the best and were advised by the Garden Centre that this is all they need - which seems sound advice so far.

As we only visit infrequently we had two flowerbeds created when we had the patio laid, one along the front house wall and one down the party wall of our Alba, we have Bouganvillea, Lantana and Jasmine which all thrives on being watered once a fortnight by our key holders, bouganvillea is a gross feeder and looks poorly if not fed so i feed it every time we visit and as a result needs a regular hard prune. Having some greenery attracts humming bird hawk moths, cicadas and we get sparrows and lizards amongst it.Its a lot less work than pots.

Hi Gord, I get a tub of a granular fertiliser from the Nursery at El Altet, its a blue colour, found if I did not feed the Bouganvillea it looked sad but responds to treatment, reminds me must take a machete next time so I can get in my house.
