An interesting article:
http://entertainment.timesonline.co....cle7004611.ece Do you think Europe has a population crisis? "...in Europe where most countries, including the UK, have fertility rates well below the 2.1 children-per-woman threshold needed to keep the population steady." from the source above^ It seems in the coming years the parts of the world less able to look after themselves are the areas that will see the largest population increases. This is likely to lead to a much greater rate of illegal immigration into the EU. With a drop in birth rates and a influx on illegal immigration from overpopulated third world countries what measures need to be taken to stop Europeans becoming a minority in the EU? It is only a crisis if the rest of the world's population keep increasing at the current rate (especially Africa, the Middle East and South Asia) and immigrants from these regions come in large numbers to Europe.
The problem isn't that Europe's population will decrease. This is itself is good. The Earth is under pressure from excessive human activity and consumption. I don't understand why politicians advertise the problem as Europeans not having enough children when the real problem is that developing countries have too many. Poverty is increasing worldwide because poor people have many times more children than people in rich countries. This situation will only lead to food and water shortages, massive migrations and wars. If anything should be done to save the planet it is find a way to limit births in developing countries, just like China did in 1979. It worked well for China. See how the economy has been growing since then. |
