Default Keeping a car in Spain.
Yes

I bought a left hand drive car here in the UK and then took it over to Spain and now park it at the airport.

You must be road legal in the UK for it to be legal in Spain if it is UK registered. The problem comes with both insurance and MOT as you need to arrange these as if you were UK based. I re registered my car onto Spanish plates which was easy. The Spanish test is due when a car is 4 years old and then every two years and not as Mark states.

The cost of parking is 300 euros a year and they wash the car for me in with this price. I save on taxis to and from the airport by parking it at the airport.

I did do a costing against hiring and on my average trips being ten per year I was well on the right side.

As far as insurance is concerned for a Spanish Insurance Company to insure the car must be Spanish registered and the cost is certainly no more than here in the UK. Direct Line operate in Spain and the operators speak English.

Linea Directa. They will allow you the same no claims discount as you get in the UK.

There are a few English owned insurance companies based in Spain that insure UK registered cars by insuring them with LLoyds of London and issuing a green card that last the length of the policy. This normally costs more than it would in the UK.

You may drive for up to six months on UK plates in Spain after which time you should re register unless you drive out of Spain and then return.

If you intend to use the car solely on Spanish roads you are in my view taking a risk and must register it in Spain.

Hi

Yes I use Victoria Car Rental. I give them 48 hours notice and they wash the car ready for me. I am collected from the airport and taken to their secure parking area which is quite near to the airport on the road between the airport and the N332. When I return I just take the car to their car park and they take me to the airport. Really is a first class service for about 4 pounds per week.
Again they speak good English should you need that.
