When we went to the local GA office to sign on the padron, there was a place on the form where one could indicate a wish to vote in the local elections. One could also indicate a wish to vote for a candidate in the European elections. We had no separate forms to deal with. The man was keen for us to choose to vote. He registered us there and then on his computer.
Keith PS do I detect some thread drift going on here? |

We have just returned from a long weekend in Gran Alacant, so were interested to see what the area next to the bars looked like now.
The area next to Jose and Marias looks tidy (or should I say tidier - needs planting) but the waste material has been heaped up down one end - not taken away. However walking down past Jose and Marias the mess along the frontage is really bad - bottles, paper you name it it's there - why don't the restaurant staff clean it up? Would you leave a mess around the edges of your front garden? It is very off-putting. In addition to the mess, since we only had the weekend we ate out more than we normally would, but can honestly say the quality of the food was not good at all. Of course we didn't try them all - so there could be some gems awaiting us. Can anyone comment on a good place to eat in the Carabassi area - its just a convenient walk from our house. We would rather pay more for good food. By the way, the weather was perfect, the beach was perfect - shame about the food! Tricia |

I returned from GA on Sunday and was there while the 'mini clean' by the bars took place. I thought great this is long over due. They did it on the Monday and that was the last we saw of them. So fed up with the state of things down there that on Friday I took a brush and shovel and had a go down there myself. I must admit I did get some strange looks. It annoys me that the Spanish bar/restaurant at the bottom only seem to concentrate on brushing up a very small area directly outside their entrance. (I saw them)Don't they seem to realise that it's a right mess around the side of their bar and it's very off putting. I for one would not eat or drink there with rubbish and cans blowing around. No wonder people are favouring the GA centre. I think in the interim the shop owners should do more, after all it is them who are most affected by this situation.
Another point to mention is the increasing graffiti appearing. What is being done about this? My neighbour says that he paints the electricity box on a year basis as his place overlooks it. It has been shown with the bar area doesn't take much to bring an area up or down. |

I am sure if the owners of the cafes/shops wanted to take some action they could, who is stopping them?
I posted my opinion on this area some five weeks ago and looking at the number of replies to my post and to this post everyone agrees that the Carabassi Bars area is an eyesore and in some areas down right dangerous. Why don't the members of this "forum" take some action and show that we will not support traders who don't care about the enviroment they trade in and the impact that that their "house keeping" has on the surrounding area? Why dont we start a "Carabassi Wednesday", as of a week on Wednesday ( the 6th September) why don't all members of this forum boycott the centre and continue to do so every Wednesday until some action is taken? Now that the number of holiday makers will be declining by the week we can make an impact. If we do nothing nor will the traders, pardon my expression but do we allow them to continue to stick two fingers up at us on one hand whilst the other hand is taking our money? Lets show that this Forum has some muscle and that it's members do care about the area. I have been in business for 35 years, and if I showed the contemp for my customers that the Carabassi traders show to us I would have lasted five minutes. Lets stick together on this one...............that's if you all agree..........feedback would be appreciated............... Regards John |

We at the Gran Alacant Advertiser have been involved in helping with this continual problem and when at a press release at the Town Hall this week took the opportunity again to discuss this problem
We are waiting a reply from Gama the owners of the centre to firstly ascertain whether they are indeed responsible for the area. If they are not, the bar owners will have to form a committee among themselves and discuss taking on the cleanliness of the area. They have already between themselves appointed someone to reguarly clean the steps and slope If the bars can get Gama to agree, there can then perhaps be someone employed to look after the whole area, with the costs shared between the bars It would not be very fair to boycott these bars, when the leaseholders have been continuously thwarted in their efforts to get something done The GA Councillor is helping to get the ball rolling and then it will be up to everybody to pitch in and keep the area clean and tidy Heres hoping!!!! By the way. The press announcement we were invited to at the Town Hall was to announce the big bowling event to take place at the Monte Mar bowls club on September 19th-20th-21st It will be an event jointly run by the bowls club and the Town Hall. The Town Hall will be footing the bill for free food and drinks at the ticket only event and have provided all bowls entrants with a towel with the Santa Pola name on, to help promote the area. There are to be 72 entrants in the first Santa Pola Open Mixed Triples event. This is hoped to be a yearly event with participants from Spain and the UK Total prize money of 1200 euros will be up for grabs The final evening will include food, drink and Flamenco Dancing Advertising leaflets will be distributed around the area Barry & Sandra |

A simple ethos my parents gave me was "you allways know what you should be doing.........the hard part is doing it" This is true both in your personel life and in your business life, the winners in life are those who "do it".
A second ethos my parents gave me was: Our business is people People are our business For people read customers and those who work with/for you. When you read the recomendations that people like Pam and Don Webster, Jimbo Plumbing receive on this web site it would not matter what business they turned to they would make it a success because of the service they give..........looking after people. If they "turned their hand" into running a business at the Carabassi Centre then guess what we would all be saying within a matter of weeks......."what a turnaround, look how this place has been transformed" Barry.........I know that you are looking after your advertisers.........but these traders are "big boys".........if they have the courage to commit to leases, to fitting out premises, to employing staff it should not be beyond their wit to care for the enviroment they operate in. I want all these businesses to succed and for the area to be the heart of the community...............not an eyesore. If the traders take no action then they will have more lapsed users like myself and countless others who use this site....................that will be real shame. I will make no more posts or replies on this subject. Regards John |
