OK, so I've played soccer my whole life and to this day I do not understand the purpose of the short corner kick. Seems like a waste of an advantage to me.

Can anyone explain to me the reason teams use this?

think they're basically just trying to get a better angle maybe.

I think it's kinda like the reverse in American football. It worked once, so everyone does it even thought it's a waste.

It works well if the Defense is sleeping on it. It give you a better shooting angle on the goal and gets you closer to goal. But if the D is paying attention they can squash it pretty easy.
