Default usa! usa! usa! usa!
the usa has qualified for their 6th straight world cup with a 3-2 road victory over honduras. landon donovan scored the game winner on a free kick from about 20 yards. usa dodged a bullet late when honduras sailed a penalty over the cross bar in the 87th minute. usa also avoided disaster when a free header went over the bar in the 89th minute.

Now lets do better than an own goal this year.

Think they will be in another 'pool of death?

depends on how fifa decides to do their seeding.

After beating Spain, and finishing off qualifying I don't see any reason we wouldn't be a number 1 seed this time around which should make it easier to advance. But there was no reason Mexico should have been a 1 last time and they still did it so we'll see...

it's not likely theyll be seeded. the last few world cups have been seeded based on performance in the previous two world cups, with most recent being weighted more, and the current fifa rankings. with only 7 seeds available the usa would need some traditional powers to not qualify and would need to move up quite a bit in the rankings.

when you look at the current fifa rankings, there are 10 teams ahead of the usa. in europe spain, england, germany, italy, and holland have already qualified. russia and france are moving on to the two legged qualifying round for group 2nd place finishers. the only team in europe ranked ahead of the usa in danger of not having a chance to qualify is croatia.

in south america brazil is qualified. argentina is either going to qualify as the fourth place team. or play whoever finishes fourth in concacaf in a home and home, which they should win easily.

by the way for hof, the usa wasn't in the group of death in 2006. the group of death was argentina, holland, ivory coast, and serbia and montenegro.
