I'm taking every monday off until I quit to use up my vacation days.

This is my fourth straight 3-day weekend.

Using vacation days

Loss of part of compensation because employer is unwilling to pay you for time not worked because the savings from not paying you for vacation days which were already budgeted improve their labor costs resulting in increased bonuses for the employer... priceless.
What?

A good game play... while some companies will pay you for unused vacation days, many don't. No need to leave any days on the table in that situation.

If I have a "employment contract", they wouldn't be able to get away with that kind of crap.

Cracked-up country...

Can't you take them just before your resignation becomes effective?

A lot of companies do not ALLOW you to use your vacation days... and they don't compensate you.

They budget it as an expense and don't compensate you.
Err....no. This is absolute nonsense. Vacation days are part of labor agreements (e.g. they were included in a rider to my offer letter). The company is legally required to give you what it promised.

What nonsense. They pay you for your vacation days earned but not taken...
Umm... still waiting for my pay then from Checkers and Sodexo... Wachovia may have paid me though. Not sure.

It is legally required here (under Provincial law) but it can be hassle to figure out. It's much easier to do what Asher is doing.

It's not actually calculated in days but rather as a % of gross.

Like I said, a hassle, take the days.

I don't have anything full-time lined up. I've got some personal contracts to work on (in addition to a couple contracts for mobile apps related to the job I'm quitting, they want me to keep putting updates out for them).

I'm debating if I want to even get another full-time 9-5 job, or if I want to just become a full-time freelancer/solo consultant.

The past ~4 years I've had the only income between me and my SO, now he's got a well-paying, stable engineering job so we've still got the base stable income. I think now's a good time to play the independent market. It's not as consistent, but there's very, very good money out there.

KH:

No comments on anything I said or am I just unbelievably ignorant even though I have witnessed and been ordered to engage in willful wrongdoing?

Have you even heard of the whole Wal Mart controversy a few years ago?
