Default Ban on gay blood donors upheld by panel
The other week, a bunch of leading doctors in Canada released a report stating the banning of gay men from giving blood is hurting, not helping, Canada as a whole.

I've stopped caring. Don't want my blood or organs, see if I care. I just wanted to help.

They kind of addressed the risk from a Gay.
Nathan Schaefer of the Gay Men’s Health Crisis, an HIV/AIDS organization, said most gay men practice safe sex and are HIV-negative, and should be considered a low-risk donor group. I don't know, but I don't find that hard to believe.

Asher, I know. It's just so damned stupid. I don't like giving blood. I've done it twice and I hated it.
If those people are going to solicit donations, they better take all the good blood that they can get. I've not giving it again. I say I'm not. That's subject to change.

As far as HIV prevalence:

http://www.cdc.gov/nchhstp/newsroom/...NAL508COMP.pdf

That's ****ing ridiculous. Asher, the gay/bi community obviously still has a problem with unprotected sex...

The problem is it should be behaviourally, not by orientation

That's what the Canadian study looked at
Exactly.

I ask because of the statistics in the PDF, not because I'm interested in moving in on Drake's harem

That would be one ****ing awesome survey

1) Do you have sex
2) How often do you have sex
3) Who do you have sex with
4) DO YOU TAKE IT UP THE ASS?

The chance of getting HIV while being a top in anal sex is no different than vaginally, far as I know

It goes: bottom > top = receive vaginal > penetrate vaginal

the > are each a factor of 5 or so

receive oral is probably less dangerous than give oral (especially if swallowed) but there are no reasonable statistics on either, as the risks are so low

One of the main problems in the gay community is lack of self respect and self esteem. A long time ago I met some really young guys (ALL LEGAL) who explicitly wanted only unprotected sex. It's psych 101 for self-destructive behaviour when they feel worthless

also ****ing creepy

If we're going based on activity (anal sex), then shouldn't it be based on the bottom?

The chance of getting HIV while being a top in anal sex is no different than vaginally, far as I know

Many gay men are exclusively tops
I thought it was easy for a top to get HIV or AIDS if he's dumb enough not to use a condom.

What if there is a microscopic scratch or cut on a guy's ****?

And since there is a greater rate of HIV infection among blacks and Hispanics, why not ban donated blood from those people too?
Their rate of infection is lower I believe. If it was higher I think people wouldn't mind such a common sense ban.

[Also where do you get the Hispanic figures? I tought it was just Blacks and that Mexicans get about as much of it as poor whites]

Let's just ban blood donations from all groups of people who have a higher HIV infection rate than straight, white men and women.

Funny thing is, starting in high school I've given blood a few times (not in recent years as my fear of needles became a bit more pronounced, which is a shame as otherwise I'm willing) and for whatever reason, I was never asked if I was gay. Not directly, not indirectly. Perhaps the Nevada Blood Bank was willing to turn a blind eye to a blind policy? Really? So you think it's more important that you get what you want than it is to respect the patients who have no choice?

How would you feel if you got infected, and passed it onto someone else unknowingly?

DROSe, I'm sure you are a great person, but please, don't ever do this again, ok? You are putting other people's lives at risk.

Ben Kenobi acts like all gays are mysteriously deadly.

Shock. Shock.

I'm sure DRoseDARs was whoring it up with all kinds of men during high school.

This seems like the appropriate thread in which to explain to Asher that the reason why blood is a bigger deal in soccer than in hockey is because all soccer players are gay and thus a much higher risk of carrying the HIV virus.

edit: And an English soccer player, of course, is 200% gay and an absolutely massive risk. You can get AIDS just by looking at his blood.

Dear Retard,

We always test donated blood for contamination before giving it to patients.
