Default Jogger gets killed by an airplane.
Jogger Killed by Airplane

Today's lesson: when crossing the street, look both ways for any airplane before crossing.
This story would make for a quality ripoff of Denis Leary's Jim Fixx joke's ripoff of Bill Hicks' Jim Fixx joke.

Clearly, this man had escaped a prior near-death experience he wasn't meant to survive, and this was just Death coming to get his due.

A C5 almost landed on me when I was crossing a fog covered active runway at Travis AFB. I saw the signal just as I went by it, heard the plane and looked left, and there it was.

I have one but I only use it for emergencies. It's in my briefcase turned off.

Just out of interest Rah, how do you know to turn it on when someone needs to call you about an emergency?

It was better 20 years ago. It was impossible to contact people in case of emergency.

The only emergencies are mine.
I did keep my phone on near the end of my wife's pregnancy but that's about it.

Just hyperbole.

But they are so incredibly useful these days. I use mine far more for its other functions than for the phone functions. It's amazingly convenient to carry a pocket sized MP3 player, mobile web browser, GPS/Sat Nav, games machine. Especially as I commute by train. I use mobile internet all the time and I never thought having access to sat nav would be as useful as it is to a non-driver.

Games on a phone? Be serious.
Apolyton OT is not the place to be serious.

As cell phone functionality increases, I'm more likely to start carrying one, but just for that extra functionality. My wife and daughter have all the cool toys and due to my attitude I get the hand me downs.

I forgot! Camera! Always having a reasonable camera on my person has allowed the capture of some great images...

I was worried it was too soon to make jokes, but you guys were laughing right away so...

Setting: Tranquil beach, light breeze and a soft surf. Cool morning sand, waves lapping at the shore like the deep breath of a sleeping lover...

Enter stage left: Jogger running on the beach. Not desperately like a man who needs to lose a pound for self-worth, but easily as someone merely finding their tone in a picturesque landscape. He/she thinks to themself... "this is wonderful... the meeting of land and ocean, all which that ecotone implies... and myself gliding along in wide open space..."

*bam*
