I suppose those are valid reasons. I was just thinking much of their power is spread over one land mass (2 continents- but the same land mass), and didn't really see a need to project power to other continents.

I was hoping that would not be the case. Don't they learn their lesson yet? Silly Russians. Not that americans are much better. We are more than happy to repeat the Russians mistakes (I'm talking Afghanistan if you haven't figured that out)

I believe the lesson learned was "Georgia is more than willing to jab at us so we should be more than willing to return the favor."

Russia stomped the Hell out of Georgia, and they never had overwhelming superiority in troops in-theater, or undisputed control of the air. By any standard Russia won.

no doubt they can win. But all their little satellite annexed countries left them before in 91, so why do they think they can keep countries that do not identify themselves as russian?
Why do you think that Georgia can keep parts of of their country that identify themselves as Russian?

Remember, THAT was the underlying cause of the Georgia-Russia war, not because Putin was twirling his mustache, planning on annexing Georgia.

Disaster relief? Russia?
What do they care. They cause most of them.
Asher, if you didn't know, our Emercom is one of the best disaster relief agencies in Europe and Asia. I'm not sure how they compare to what you have.

I'd rather this ship joined the Baltic fleet, not the Black Sea fleet. The latter is notorious for being regularly scuttled.

You might want to get that stutter looked at.
I can forgive it, if he wears his Wesley Crusher uniform to the next DCmeet.

Geez, Krazy. Doesn't it hurt walking around like that, with your head crammed up your rectum?

Pull it out and smell the roses.

But it is a Slavocracy. Ugh, I need to sleep.
Nonesense. You will, of course, provide evidence that Russia is a society centered around a (relative)handful of people owning other human beings?

Because if we allow any redrawing of the maps then suddenly you're going to have secessionist movements and independence movements popping up all over the damn place and that will be a bloody affair.

Oh, and Stalin's (really the whole Soviet system's) do what I say or I'll have you shot is just as bad as slavery.

(1)Russia today is not the Stalinist System of a long time ago
(2)The West already encourages "Balkanization" processes, and they've done this, since, oh, 1919. That ship has done sailed.

Certainly you don't mean a disputed area peacekept by Russia, ethnically cleansed by deportation before, where most remaining residents were issued Russian passports and citizenship?

Yeah. Don't forget about Russia being fed up with NATO's expansion to the Ukraine and Georgia. Putin achieved for those two countries to be left -currently indefinitely - in NATO's waiting room.

Russia pwned in every respect in that war.
