Default Ballot Issues Attest to Anger in California
I really hope we don't decentralize things though as it would be embarrassing to have creationists voting to mandate "creation science" for all schools in right wing places like Fresno. What we need to do is keep the centralization but repeal the crappy Republican "reforms" of the 1980's such as the one which requires a 2/3rds vote to pass the yearly budget; that just insures the special interests always get their way and the budget is never on time. The measure to limit the cost of ballot measures though would be great.

Did you miss the part about the ...
Despite the fact that past initiatives helped get California into its budget crisis — forcing spending in some areas while limiting taxation in others — the pileup of new ones suggests (amusingly) that many voters still believe they hold the solution to the state’s mess.

Or if you want to be even the slightest bit honest, which I know you don't, then you could see the budgetary effects of all those initiatives to cut taxes. I know, you'll blame someone else other then the group which forced feed them.

while limiting taxation in others Right, the problem is that you can't raise taxation into the sky!

God, this is so stupid. Do you honestly believe Oerdin that more taxation will cure all?

The one sane thing in CA is the limitation on property taxes, that is the one thing that is protecting you from fiscal armageddon. You want to collapse CA, take that all away. You honestly don't think that removing the cap of 1 percent will have a deletorious effect on already strained taxpayers? Or is it more, soak the rich?

You'll drive the price of housing down, way down, and people will sell just to get the hell outta CA.

You asked about the GOP's part which I just explained. No one, but you it seems, thinks it is only one group's fault. Stop pretending you're as dumb as ben.

Texas is losing jobs too plus California normally leads the way going into & leaving recessions first. Again please stop talking unless you have even the slightest bit of knowledge on the subject.

Good article. Now all we need is a party that doesn't embrace fiscal liberalism.

I don't know enough to say what actually caused CA's failure, but Will is the BK of the Washington Post. Anything he says is suspect.

That's why a George Will column is the perfect foil to an article Oerdin has posted.

You're welcome.

Oh, please. The problem has nothing to do with liberalism and everything to do with the 2/3rds rule which prevents tax increases as well as spending cuts. Who forced the 2/3rds rule through again? Oh, yeah. Republicans. Sure, the proposition system has done it's own harm but the passed tax cuts have nothing to do liberalism so STFU until you stop being a tard.
