"You Really Got Me" is better. "All Day and All of the Night" probably does, as well.
They are more-or-less the same song. I love them both, though I haven't heard the Who's version that Krill is talking about. The Doors covered them, of course, thinly disguised as 'Hello, I love You'. Didn't fool the lawyers though.

It's been too long since I listened to Zep.

Let's just count them as one, sub 5:00 song.

Time for Clapton now. "Layla" is clearly better than BO. "Sunshine of Your Love" and "Cocaine" are also up there.

Stairway to Heaven -- Led Zepplin
House of the Rising Sun -- Animals
Satisfaction -- Rolling Stones
Sunshine Superman -- Donovan
Born to be Wild - Steppenwolf
Johnny B Goode -- Chuck Berry
With a Little Help from my Friends -- Joe Cocker
Here comes the Sun -- Beatles
Have you ever seen the rain -- CCR
Beach boys -- Surfin' USA.

I second the votes for Stairway, Satisfaction and Born to be wild.

Change "Shine a Light" to "Honky Tonk Woman" or "Gimme Shelter" and I will support that list wholeheartedly.

Fun stuff.

Most of you are too young for this discussion. But still, it amuses.

Clapton couldn't even outshine Duane Allman on his masterpiece album.

Clapton was ok. It's worth buying both the Cream and the Derek and the Dominoes records. The rest of his career can quite easily be covered with a compilation. It's not like The Beatles or The Stones where you need to buy a dozen albums just to have most of the good stuff.

Clapton is the only 3 time Rock and Roll HOF inductee.

Not being able to hold a band together isn't a badge of honor...

I don't agree, and neither will you

I agree. I already said Allman and Clapton were both members of the all-time top-5 guitarists and agree that Allman was better than Clapton.

Jrabbit, we now have these things called CDs and MP3s that allow people of our generation to listen to music you could only hear when you gathered around the radio with your family, presumably to listen to FDR's fireside chats. It's a magical time.
Amazingly, FDR was dead by the time I was born. Much like your relationship with Keith Moon.

It just struck me that virtually every tune mentioned was from the late 60s and the 70s. (And it appears from this thread that virtually all the great rock songs were done by the Stones, The Who and Led Zeppelin.) It's deja-vu for me, as I had many discussions remarkably similar to this at the time it was all happening.

But I see we've morphed into a Clapton: God or Not? discussion...
