Well in a rural area there's often households that have heavy machinery or large vehicles for various land maintenance issues. I agree in suburbia the whole "small house, many garages" proportion might seem very odd.

I'm ambivalent about all this. On the one hand it's clear to me there was some intrusion on privacy, though it may not be so severe as to be actionable. On the other hand, once that intrusion goes digital and makes it to the Internet, it's almost impossible to stop it. In that case it's hard to see what else can be done.
