Positive about "We Were Soldiers" was that the Vietnamese weren't depicted simply as nazis. Aside from that it was just a war movie with a "war sucks - but sometimes individuals have to go through it - at home families wait - the hero returns" message much like described above by DM. It wasn't really pro-war, and not clearly anti-war either IMO.

If he could *** $400 million wouldn't he just stay at home all day watching porn and wacking off?
On another note DanS's last post just helps to prove what people have already said in this thread. Americans like Action movies and not boring political diatribes. Feel free to continue pretending being pro or anti war was even a remote factor if it pleases you. |

There have been so many anti-war films in the past, especially after Vietnam.
And what's new that war films like Platoon and Full Metal jacket don't send the same message? People suffer, die, go through emotional turmoil. **** gets blown up. Yeah, people know what's going on in Iraq thanks to an all pervasive media. The News reports it 24/7 and most people are against the occupation now. Anti-war movies aren't going to add much at this point. |

WOTW was before he went critical-mass crazy. MI3 was expected to earn a lot more as part of a highly popular series. Cruise was given the boot from his old production company or what-have-you after the (relative) flop. There was a brief but noisy sound-bite catfight between him and his former superiors. Look it up on www.tomcruiseisnuts.com (I'm not sure if the site is still up tho'). |

It was a huge spectacle, unlike all the movies you mentioned save Lion for Lambs, with big names, and in the US it made less than $50 million, which for a movie on it's scale, is poor. But it's interesting to see a far left Hollywood still serve up those movies. As if it were some public service that they were doing. Lions for Lambs... bombed Rendition... bombed In the Valley of Elah... bombed Redacted... to bomb? Despite a who's who of top notch talent participating in the films. http://www.deadlinehollywooddaily.co...enzel-russell/ Some of these films even are in the majority opinion on these issues. It used to be that Hollywood participated in the government's propaganda. But that hasn't been the case for the last 50 years. My personal opinion is that Americans don't go into self flagellation. If Hollywood wants to put the hate on America, then middle America (and not so middle America) checks out. Maybe they just don't support crappy films. |
