It should work. Alcohol absorbed through the rectal veins goes directly into the circulation while alcohol absorbed through the gastric mucosa passes through the liver first and part of it gets metabolized. Furthermore, some of the alcohol will also be metabolized in the gastric mucosa, all in all making it a pretty inefficient route.
