Default South African Non-Aggressor Still Alive Despite Bush Idiotic Remark
He's dead in the sense of having no influence, which is what was meant.

After his retirement as President, Mandela went on to become an advocate for a variety of social and human rights organisations. He has expressed his support for the international Make Poverty History movement of which the ONE Campaign is a part.

Mandela appeared in a televised advertisement for the 2006 Winter Olympics, and was quoted for the International Olympic Committee's Celebrate Humanity campaign.

It was a poor choice of words, and possibly untrue.

From the OP:

"Where's Mandela? Well, Mandela's dead because Saddam Hussein killed all the Mandelas."

Don't know about you all (looking at you Sloww), but this looks straight forward to me. Mandela is dead and Saddam killed him.

Or maybe my English teacher from way back then was worse than I thought him to be?

Or maybe my English teacher from way back then was worse than I thought him to be? He was speaking figuratively. He wasn't meaning "the" Mandela.

As I said, it was poorly worded.

Or maybe my English teacher from way back then was worse than I thought him to be? The clue that it's figurative (apart from the fact that he's bringing up Mandela re: Iraq) is the plural - there isn't some clone army of Nelson Mandelas.

Man, this is the stupidest thing I've seen in quite a while.

Hueij

Where's a leftist with an actual clue? Well, he's dead because knee-jerk hatred of anything President Bush will do or say has caused leftists to completely lose their minds.

Y, there are far better 'Bushisms' if you want to laugh at the man. This was minor.

I think all Bushisms are fair game to laugh at.

In times like this, we need all the laughter we can get. That is Bush's legacy.

Well a charismatic leader is certainly something Iraq could do with.

India managed the huge advance required at independance so as to be able to develop towards nation statehood.

Which I think must be put down to their having Ghandi.

And the only country, Botswana, which made work the (democratic) constitution which the UK gave to it at independance had Seretse Khama.

Sadly such folk don't come along to order.

I very much doubt that there was some pool of charismatic leaders waiting conveniently in Iraq.

Anyway, at least Mr Bush is starting to acknowledge that there were problems about re-establishing peace in Iraq consequent upon his decision to topple the Hussein regime.

He is not the quickest thinker in the world but maybe he can get there in the end if things are demonstrated to him clearly enough and over a long enough period.
