This is just a librally biased study to try and prove that Bush is an evil dictator that wants to take over the world.
First of all, how the Hell does Iran get by the US when its leader has said his mission is global chaos. Iran should be at the bottom of the list, not 97th. Prison population should give a better score since that country is not a corupt criminal controled country and can control violence. Another thing, UN missions mean that a country is less peaceful, aren't UN missions stopping violence. Kuken, Russia's score is 2.903 |

Thanks, corrected! |

What a COMPLETE WASTE!
Evil, evil Finland at #6 of 121? Canada at #8 when its on the verge of going nuclear with Denmark over Hans0?* And speaking of those warmongering Danes (#3), didn't they almost start the "Clash of Civilisations" not to long ago by drawing pics of Mohammad? * Might be a bit of embelishment on my part here... ![]() |

According to Wikipedia too, this is the definition of Gendarmerie as a Military corps : A gendarmerie (pronounced /ʒɒnˈdɑːmɜːriː/) is a military body charged with police duties among civilian populations. The members of such a body are called gendarmes. |

Ratings like these are the reason I don't read The Economist anymore. The guys behind the ranking have essentually taken their 90s-originating prejudices about the different countries, added up some zomg BUSHITLER-demagogue in the mix, and fudged with the stats included enough to get the results they so much desired.
I wish this would be recognised as meaningless, but I presume this will be yet another Eurocentric penis-waving rating to be added to Wikipedia country comparisons. |

We wouldn't be complaining if the US had better ranking because the ranking is biased to give the US a worse ranking than we deserve. Part of it is based on defence spending. The country with the worlds largest GDP will have a high defense spending. Putting defense spending in just gives a larger country worse score. Size gives no conection to peacfulness. Large countries will also be involed in more UN peace-keeping missions. To see our reason to complain now? |

I don't think the US exactly can pride itself on being very peaceful. That said, I don't deny that the US faces geopolitical circumstances that differ from those of many other countries...
