Yah, had a similar problem with McAfee (or maybe it was Norton...) on one of my Dad's laptops. You can try:

http://forums.mcafeehelp.com/viewtopic.php?t=71943

I'd also recommend downloading CCleaner and removing any references to McAfee on startup (Tools->Startup). Or you can use msconfig to do the same thing, but CCleaner is helpful in a lot of other ways too. Like, checking the registry for errors (Issues), where there are probably plenty of other McAfee references still around.

Once you get rid of all the references you can, boot in safe mode (F8 after the bios screen, before Windows starts to load), and hopefully you can delete any of the McAfee files still in Program Files.

I've ZoneAlarm has gone downhill in the latest iterations. Can anyone verify? I'm, for the moment, using Windows Vista Firewall, but looking to upgrade as soon as possible.

One February, I bought a computer that came with 1 year of free McAfee. In May, McAfee demanded that I renew my subscription. I contacted them repeatedly, pointing out that Feb-May is not one year. They never responded to any of my attempts to contact them.

I shall never deal with them again.
