Form Wikipedia:

The war began when Iraq invaded Iran on 22 September 1980 following a long history of border disputes and demands for the overthrow of Saddam Hussein's regime. The conflict saw early successes by the Iraqis, but before long they were repelled and the conflict stabilized into a long war of attrition.

Except Iraq DID take advantage of the chaos of the Iranian revolution. Do you honestly think that Iraq would simply invade instantly? The outcome of the revolution was in doubt in 1979. By 1980 is was pretty clear that Iran was estranged from the US.

byt the logic you are trying to use, it would be wrong to state that the Monarchical powers of Europe attacked France bcecause of its revolutionary government because they invaded after 1790, not instantly in 1789.

I though better of you Dino

MY point is, as far as I can recall, Iran has historically been a relatively pacific neighbor. That's because Iran has been a weak neighbour for most of the past several centuries.
