Default Frist versus Hillary in 2008 - do you vote in your primaries?
I'll probably switch my registration to Democrat before 2008. I'm currently registered Green - so this is proof that our personal political views move to the right as we get older.

I've already switched from Independent to Democrat so I could vote in the '06 primary... and I'll vote again in the '08 primary.

The question is...which one?

I'll have to choose 3 months in advance b/c of the waiting period to go from Dem to Rep.

I do believe it's to prevent voting in multiple primaries in the same election year.

If you switch from Independent to a party affiliation, there is no wait. It's just from party to party.

Frist won't make it past the primaries anyway. He lost the right to make a legitimate run IMO for the weak willed way he dealt with the filibuster issue.

It won't be Frist.

But, yeah, I'll vote in the promaries for the candidate I actually like (Feingold or Obama), then hold my nose and vote for Hillary in the general election.

Frist aint got a shot.

I'm actually hopeful that after introspection the GOP will realize they lost this round of midterms in large part due to the finally wise strategy the Dems employed. Namely largely nominating acceptable moderate (Conservative for Dems) candidates. The counting on the base turnout to carry the day won't work long term and requires having more centrist support. Lets hope both parties adopt a more sane primary approach rather than kowtowing to the Kos, Moveon.org on the one hand and the religious right on the other.

That we see things out to the end no matter how damaging the consequences?

Brachy makes a good point though. It shows that name recognition is probably more important than merit (I'm convinced that is why we have a President Bush in office right now).

Why did they fundraise like Hell in the first place? Because Bush had the 'name'. It wasn't like he distinguished himself as Governor of Texas.

And I do think that a LOT of Hillary's support comes from name recognition. Everyone knows she's Bill's wife. Not many know exactly what she stands for (aside from thinking she believes what Bill did). That's why she's got the early lead.

Well that goes back, once again, to her husband and his policies. After all, she was advocating one of the things he advanced. Well geepers creepers, you could say the same thing about a cabinet member. Or a Veep.

Now of course the Bush admin passed everything the advocated - (hint, Immigration reform). Anyway, she was new to national governance then, she really didnt know how much harder it is to manage congress than the Arkansas legislature. She knows that pretty well by now.

And shes been pretty good at advocating for the interests of NY. She hasnt been out front on much legislation, but then being in the minority, and being more of an executive branch focused kind of senator, and being a first term Senator, thats understandable. Everyones going on about Obama, whats he passed? Heck, what had Allen passed?

I just suggested Hillary and Frist not because of high probability, but because they are both so polarizing. Neither is on my A-list.
