Default I'd Ask if They'd Buy Me a Plane Ticket, and Somebody Always Would...
Fools and their money are easily parted...I certainly wouldn't buy some random stranger a plane ticket...

I'll bet he had some great sob story....

My mother is dying. I'm trying to get home, but I got mugged and the thief took all my money. Can you buy me a ticket. Give me your address & I'll mail you the money. I promise. Most people might turn him down, but eventually he'd find a sucker.

I used to had out money to beggars if they had a good line or a good personality.

Now, I work downtown, so I'm approached several times a day. That really hardens the heart.

I work in the travel industry and what Spiffor says is very true.

To many people these days, taking a flight is as common as taking a bus.

If a wealthy person see's a person stuck in an airport, usually they will be compassionate enough to buy a ticket to the next stop, which mind you, might only cost between $100 - $300 (or even less, say Singapore to Kuala Lumpur or Bangkok) since the guy probably isn't travelling half way around the world.

This guy must have been really annoying if people were willing to pay hundreds of dollars just to be rid of him.

Exactly, and if someone came that sob story with me, I'd just think it was a scam rather than pure f*ckwittedness...

Then again I could just be a cheap ****er. One eight hour day grosses me over $200 so buying someone a ticket would likely cost me a day's wages. I just don't want to encourage this type of behavior since it is abusing the kindness of others. It is one thing is someone is really unintentionally trapped and needs help and entirely another when a person deliberately decides to beg off of other people because they want to travel but don't need to.

It's only abusing the kidness of strangers if he lies to them.

Not really? VetLegion started a thread on a guy travelling the world by asking. If people who don't need to ask, ask, then how do you figure?

It's like these poly posters who tell me to ask a thousand girls to have sex. I just can't see one of them saying yes.

Just remember, their eyes and face and frantic struggles and kicking and screaming for "Help!!" may say No, but their hearts are saying Yes.

Dis, you seem like a reasonably intelligent man. I'm assuming you're not a grotesque, hunchbacked freak with weeping sores. Even if you don't look like Brad Pitt, you're probably at least average looking. If you asked a thousand women to have sex, several of them would comply. If you ask a hundred, odds are you'll get laid.

You never know if a woman just happens to think you're gorgeous (yes, it even happens that average-looking people find those who think they're very attractive), is intrigued or turned on by the forwardness of such a request, just happens to be feeling horny and kinky and is receptive to such a request, just broke up with her boyfriend and needs some sex or validation... there are numerous reasons why a woman would say yes.

Similarly, there are numerous reasons why someone would buy a plane ticket for a total stranger.

the original topic is far more interesting. I would love to travel around the world for free. But there are a great many things I would not want to do for money. Begging is one of them. And as I said, some people are just more pursuasive than others. I've enountered people that provide pretty good arguments for asking me to give them a ride (though I always say no- only once have I given some people a ride). I'm just not one of those people. I prefer to avoid talking to people, unles they are friends or whatever. Strangers bother me. I'd rather work an 8 hour day to afford money to travel somewhere.
