You lose. No, he doesn't. You just seem congenitally incapable of understanding a very disgusting part of our history that we still have yet to come to terms with. We're still muddling through this, trying to figure out how to overcome it, and the legacy of it. Our emotions are still raw, and some people are hurt worse than others. As empathetic beings we more horrified by greater harm than lesser harm. To wit, Black people are more injured emotionally by whites being racist towards them than vice versa. It's the difference between punching someone and punching them on a broken arm. The action is the same in both cases, but the effect is clearly more harmful in the latter. As far as what I was or was not snidely insinuating, I didn't engage in any deliberate snideness until the previous paragraph. However, when you display such a callous disregard of our history and pain, its hard to keep emotions in check. |

was founded on the premise that enslavement of blacks was a moral good. It was one of many tenants, but I suppose that is what the US was founded on to. All that other stuff was also just meaningless semantics.
I am so glad Tass and Che as mind readers and can instantly tell the internal motivations of millions of people on a whim. Thanks for telling me what I was thinking guys, as I guess you are a better judge than me! And Che, Tass, Mr Fun automatically lose for bringing up Nazis, even if it was in a completely inappropriate comparison. |

Race is still, unfortunately, a big deal at my church (Which is 99.X% african american). But I understand.. as the mean age is over 50. They experienced things that I read about in history books.
It is also, much more unfortunately, a big deal to some of my freinds.. who are (to varying degrees) racist. That being true, however, the younger generation is a lot less racist than the older. Jon Miller |

As for the confederate flag (to actually get back on topic), I think it's silly to compare it to the swastica. Sure the Ku Klux Klan used it, but they never killed 6 million people. The degree of severity is just much less with a confederate flag. I'm not saying people have never done bad things while displaying the flag, but the severity is much less.
Is it racism? Indirectly, I believe it is. But I think most people who display it don't really know what it means. They only do it because other people do it. They aren't necessarily racist. People are sheep. They only do what other people are doing. It would be silly to say there is abolutely no racist connotations behind the flag in every situtation, but displaying the flag is not the same as carrying a sign saying: "I'm a racist". That said, I think the flag is silly, and I don't know why people like it. The hilarious thing is these people claim to be patriots. You are either with us or against us (I'm kidding here, but I'm using their logic). You either support the U.S., or you don't. Don't go supporting some bullshit goverment that lasted less than 4 years. edit: yes the above post seems contradictory, perhaps I'm not explaining myself fully here. Sometimes I have trouble expressiong thoughts into words. But every situation is different. You just can't go around calling every redneck displaying a confederate flag a racist. Some people are just too stupid to realize what message they are conveying by flying the flag. |

Patroklos and Slowwy -- if the Confederate flag's history has nothing to do with racism then why don't Southern blacks show the same pride in their region by proudly displaying the Confederate flag?
And I found it humorous that Kuci has declared that racism no longer exists among his generation in the South. |
