Default Orthodox churches in south India
Is there anyone here familiar with the Orthodox churches of India? My kids and I will be in there for the month of July. We'll be with family in Tamil Nadu, near Pollachi/Udamalpet. Are there any churches near there or are all the orthodox churches in Kerela?

I couldn't find out how far Kottayam is from Pollachi from the online maps, but it looks like it's not more than 2 hours away. And from Fr Seraphim's posts, I know he's been there. Were else in Kerala have you been, Father? I don't know if we'll have time or if the kids will be upto travelling so much, but I'd like to see at least one Indian orthodox church.

In Christ,

Mary.

Dear Mary,

There are indeed Churches in Tamil Nadu - not as many as albeit, around Kottayam, Kerala which is the spiritual nexus of Syrian Orthodoxy in India - and a very very vibrant Chruch it is also!

As soon as I arrive back home, from the torrid heat of soutern Ontario, back to the pleasants climes of moose country (where I live) later today, I shall investigate for you, and write to you.

If Pollachi is where I think it is, it will be much farther than two hours from Kottayam. But I think it is closer to Trissur (Trichur), where we have a diocese and some churches. Also, Trissur is a center for members of the Assyrian Church of the East. Both communities are worth visits.
