So it begins... it's sort of like the movie 2012 (terrible movie btw) where spots on the "Arks" Where reserved for world leaders and such.

If this gets actually funded and the brain transplant actually works, the next steps will of course come to be.

Now, this means you'll be aware of existing only in whatever socket you're put in. So in essence, you'll operate the machine through your brain, but exist only as that. Will your soul live within that? If so, then you're made believe that your brain holds your soul?

I honestly don't see how that means eternal life, when you're a soulless machine waiting for its core processor to deteriorate and die off. Add to that the loss of the millions of dollars spent in life to have this done.

Yep.

Likely and affordable? Nope.

Unfortunately, giant douches, like the future pope will be first in line. Their immortality will permanently sully the human race beyond recovery.

That's why I side with the machines.

But seriously: we live in an awesome age. We're at a point where virtually every day holds new breakthroughs in technology, medicine, and our understanding of the universe. It's exciting! So ignore the dicks holding back mankind; because you you REALLY should be excited!

I do think it's likely to happen, though religion will be sure to interfere.

This is exactly what I think of the situation. Not that we're giving the wrong people all of the power already...

As far as he wants people to know anyways. I wouldn't put it past any "leader" of sorts who wouldn't want an eternal reign; especially coming from something as hypocritical as religion.

the pope is the pope because of the fact that he doesnt care about worldly thing. he embraces his death and hopes to be embraced in heaven. religion is very hypocritical yes, but the process in electing a pope is a very harsh one that im sure you can slip through cracks in

STD's will be replaced with computer viruses. XD

I'd honestly rather die than have immortality as a machine.

Thats given if your soul even exists in the machine. Otherwise you're given artificial lifelessness.

And like an above poster stated. Your brain can only last so long. It'll deteriorate and die itself, so nothing past that would be immortal.
Potential to copy someones personality and paste it in a machine.

They may act like you, talk like you, and do the things you do...but in the end it would honestly just seem like a sad way to keep someone around after they have died. Makes the person doing it even more seemingly like the can't accept you're gone.

That is assuming the existance of a soul. There is no evidence to support such an argument.

Gold everything.

Manservants everywhere.

His own golden thrown, where he's worshipped by many.

He's living it up, dude. If he wants or needs anything, he gets it. Why own your own possessions when you have full use of all of the possessions of the Catholic church until death.

So yeah, his successor will be one of the first people to "become immortal"; if such a thing occurs.
