His parents allegedly met in acting school out in Hollywood, and used this as a publicity stunt in order to attempt landing a reality TV series. There was speculation that they had some of the media and emergency officials in on the stunt as well. (This all coming from one source, don't quote me on it unless its backed up someplace else)

People do anything for a little attention.

Reminds me of those park rangers who "found a dead bigfoot" in Georgia.

A waste of time, really. If they want to be on the news, they do lots of stupid things to do so. But Balloon Boy isn't really news, it is just stupidity with some attention.

Kid Supposedly flys off inside experimental balloon thingy that just happens to be in backyard! Dad curses a lot and it's bleeped out! Causes a major stir that gets rescue teams and the media all in a frenzy! Turns out the kid was hiding in the basement! The US is pissed for being screwed over by the news interrupting their regularly scheduled shlock for this nonsense!

God I love CHAOS!

It wasn't censored on the BBC news o.o
