Default What Should I Expect On Windows Vista?
I finally got me a new lap top computer, it arrived a week ago Saturday. It hasn't been online yet though. After all Daddy still has to get a wireless connection setup so both computers can be online at the sametime. What can I expect on Windows Vista? I didn't have much in choices, all there was to choose from any more is Windows Vista so I got one that had what I wanted on it. When I went ahead, and found it I was like I have to find one this month because I want a computer so I could feel better about my cousin stealing both of mine.

You should expect Microsoft to have made very easy things complicated to do. Basically they went with the mentality that anything 'complicated' (simple things) should be hidden VERY WELL from the user! So when setting your PC up is going to be a trial of wits, as you navigate your way through annoying setup wizards in an attempt to do something that would take about 10 seconds to do through the advanced settings.

That's Vista in a nutshell. Oh, and it's a cow.

I already went through the setup on my computer though, and I even played the games on it too a week ago yesterday the day I wasn't online I was busy offline on my computer doing all of that, and getting it set up wasn't that complicated. My taskbar is red, and I chose a red flower wallpaper. I was asking about other wise. I also learned how to play Majong one of my Mom's favorite computer games since it has that on there.

Being that my computer as one of the first with Vista, I am going through heck :P. Ongoing blue screens, freezes, extreme lags, coupled with the fact the wireless driver is malfunctioning, and neither Best Buy, Acer, or Microsoft will offer any help makes me want to throw this computer against the wall. I am pretty sure they have fixed out most of those bugs, especially with Windows 7 about to be released hah.

Out of the videos I have seen, Windows 7 seems to be a very smooth operating system. i recommend that you upgrade to it ^^. My computer relies on dial up and I would rather not wait 2 weeks for it to download...

Um from my standpoint, one of a programmer I strongly disagree. Vista likes to throw up barriers that impede me in every move, I run a virtual machine inside it and thats that.

Ditto actually. But mine's for work.

If you can, just upgrade to Windows 7. To be honest, I don't like it as much as XP, but it'll actually feel like an upgrade compared to a nerfing like Vista is.

Vista is annoying to use. Some of the otherwise simple tasks become unessesarily mundane to perform.

For basic computing, Vista is a kickass OS imo. My old XP desktop got the makeover and I've bought two new computers over the past year with 64-bit editions of Vista. I love Vista; but you definitely need a Windows 7 upgrade. The computer you buy may come with a free upgrade if the manufacturer is participating in the upgrade program.

Oh. That sounds worse than what I went through on my 2nd computer AST Windows 95 the one that had constant blue screen errors, and restarted itself constantly, and a lot worse than the problems I was dealing with on Windows Me my 4rth computer. This computer is my 2nd lap top, and 6th computer. I loved my previous lap top computer a lot, and it had Windows XP but unfortunately my 2nd cousin stole it so I had to replace it not that I hadn't been going to since last summer, only wish I had gotten me one last summer so it could have been XP.

I don't have any idea when I will even have mine in my room ready for use online, and all of that yet after all Daddy is still working on things I'm still using my parents computer right now although online I pretty much got to as it's the one with the DSL internet connection.

I love it. My favourite OS to date TBH.

I happen to love what I have seen on mine so far, I sure do love the games on it that's for sure.

Okay. I can't say much about Vista yet since I haven't really used my computer much yet but I know I loved my first lap top computer a lot, and miss it a great deal, but I also know my parents lap top computer works better than mine did. After all I wasn't even using it to go online because my lap top kept having problems with the AOL software but my parents computer never had that problem with dial up while at home.

I don't know if it is or not but I do know that the computer I got is a refurbished one, and it's an HP lap top.

its a good OS, but it can get annoying, and it seems like they made normal stuff that you could do on XP, a bit more complicated and frustrating. if you ever download or install any game onto computer you literally have to admin approve it everytime, for Vista to play the game.

OMG Vista makes me want to kill myself. I'm trying to set-up a network on it w/an XP computer.

IT DOESN'T F**KING WORK!

I wouldn't mind but it was fine before.

Windows 7 won't be my friend until 3+ years from now when I might consider calling it stable.

By then though, I might've moved completely away from a Windows OS. Depends on how well Chrome performs and if I can cross-compile for Windows Programming.

I know it works; but on XP you're all "Connect to network. Next. Next. Next. Next. Next. Next. Next. Next. Next. Next. Next. Next. Wait, back. Next. Next. Next. Finish."

On Vista you're like "Network. Erm... What?"
