This is all good news. I assume that these maps are based on scale of 1:10,000. I would be interested to know what the DR does in terms of mapping property boundaries, buildings, etc - i.e at a scale of about 1:1,250. Is there an agency (similar to the Ordnance Survey in the UK) that is responsible for this work in the DR?

I have been shopping for a navigation unit for my boat as well as the car. While in one store and trying out all the autonavigation units. one had coverage of the DR.
at least the map came up...I dont know if the route instructions would come through. I could scroll down in size to where it gave all the major roads in the santiago area. it had route 1 21 25 5 14 plus a few of the next size down road....like the road between tanboril and santiago other units did not show the DR at all. the navigation units for boaters have the whole carribean!! bad bob |

I can help already..... they have route 14 mis marked it goes through LICEY AL MEDIO not Tamboril and San Victor.
you know this is the first map of the area that the portion around Moca, and Tavinas house has been IN FOCUS!!! bout time!!! you know how the older sat pictures would have some areas really BLURRED out!! they fixed it on this latest link Robert gave. Google Map Maker hopefull this shows the section I think they have mislabled.... plus the turn for Sabanete on 21 is way way off.....it is IN SAN VICTOR!! bob |

I just signed up.
I got a few changes...they left out Ave 27 in Santiago.... they called it route 14 still!!! ha ha ha anyway most of it is good.... they left out route 25 which goes over the mountain to Sosua-Puerto Plata. or at least they didnt label it. I think the best thing is they have clear photos of areas that used to be BLURRED badly. bob |

Just came across this site, don't know if it helps you GPS buffs or not: Here the complete map of DR for Garmin is $ 87.00. GPS compatible Garmin, Navitel, Nokia, Windows Mobile XT, Symbian, etc.maps Dominican Republic Dominicana Digital maps order form "The map implements all necessary data, so your navigation device would be able to search for optimal routes, make a voice directions, show the necessary information about the nearest turns, and more." BTW, I have a Nuvi 260 and there is no DR map available directly from the Garmin site. ![]() The Hun |

what has become on that map that the students, etc. were making on the first couple pages of this thread?
I have seen a YouTube video of a digital map / device of D.R. (Santo Domingo?) YouTube - Sistema GPS dominicano en Tecdo 2008 Russ. Jarabacoa GPS Tracks and Waypoints: http://jarabacoa.org/gps |
