Default "Dominican" Upholstery fabric store?
Hi, we are coming Feb/March 2012 and are planning a trip from Sosua to Santa Domingo and wondered if anyone knows of a fabric/upholstery fabric store? I am looking for a piece of fabric, probably 3 metres or so, and I'd like a brightly colored graphic pattern. Mexico has the striped blankets that seem to be everywhere, does the DR have a traditional style of material? I've been to the DR on a number of occasions and I can't recall seeing this type of thing, but I hope it exists. Any help anyone may be able to provide would be much appreciated

No need to go to SD, there is a good store in Puerto Plata, it is called Hidelisa and is in the center of town, down the street from the Plaza.
They have a wide choice of material and their seamstresses are excellent. They have made bedcovers and drapes for us. This year I am even having new drapes made for my home back in Canada.
The prices cannot be beat.

Would you be so kind as to give us an idea of the prices please?

For example for a King size bed the bedspread material and confection along with 5 decorative cushions cost me $125.u.s.

The 8 curtains for big sliding doors and 96 inche height with french pleats, confection and material is costing me $440.u.s. I priced this in Canada before coming and it was $2,200.

As I said the confection is flawless.

Can't beat the price

I also have had curtains made here to take back to Canada. The fabric came from Hidalisa. It was a huge savings.

FYI> Hidelsa buys in bulk from La Epoca on Metropolitana Avenue in Los Jardines Metropolitanos in Santiago, a 10 minute walk from the Metro/Caribe Tour stations...
