That wasn't the question FTT. lol
I use extreme and get 33 minutes for $2 card (use the whole card in the same day or it vanishes).

I think I got it from someone here.
You set it up for autofill... never need to worry about running out of minutes.

Skype is good if both of you have computers or smart phones. It is gratis. I have the World Call option on my Optimum phone service. $19.95 for 250 minutes/month.

Compare Best Phone Cards & Calling Cards - 100% Phone Card Guarantee

They have a few different cards. See which one fits your needs. Works well to the DR.

If you're calling frequently and to house phones, the best deal I've heard of so far is to get Metro PCS mobile service and pay an extra $10/month for international calling. It's about $50-60/month total for unlimited everything. If you are calling to mobiles frequently I think Vonage will get you there cheapest but I don't know there rates. I've tried a lot of cards and they all sucked for someone who was going to call everyday (about $30/month for a ten minute call everyday).

For convenience and cost I think Google Voice for Prepaid can't be beat.

Here's a comparison for prepaid: Google Voice (GV) Pennytalk (PT) Skype (SK)

Land Lines GV=.06/minute PT=.05/min SK=.09/min
Cel phones GV=.11/minute PT=.19/min SK=.15/min

I mostly call cell phones, so GV wins there big time, and they also have auto refill available. They have an app to call from your smart phone, and on Android, can intercept all your international calls and reroute it through GV automatically. Also you can call from a pc.

Vonage plans for calling DR cell phones suck, and kinda bad too.

With a minimum plan like $9.99/month it will cost you .18/min
with a Vonage World plan of $25.99/month it will cost .8/min

Thanks, but no thanks!

Oh, I forgot to mention...when I call using GV, they see my GV number (you get a US based number, kind of like Magic Jack and Vonage) and they can see the missed call and call me back.

...even if just to "beepiarme" so I can call them back lol

Respect! Llama is cheaper for mobiles by penny

What actually caught my eye is that you can send sms messages via Llama. Has anyone figured out how to send them on Claro's site for free? You can do this on any US mobile carrier's site...
