They will put a couple of the most undesirable people in jail (Pepe Goico may be one of them), but for the most part nothing else will happen. Hippo will definitely NOT go to jail. Baez figueroa and the Baninter gang will not only be freed, but I bet you they get a lot of their companies back (They are big supporters of Leonel).
A good sign that nothing will happen are statements by some of the "new" people in the government (Ditren from OMSA and others) asking people to return some of the property they had illegally taken. Saying "Please return it. We will not prosecute you". What kind of BS is this? If you took something that wasn't yours, that's called stealing and you should go to jail... All these people from RENOVE, all the policemen who take recovered stolen property for their own personal use, the whole PPH Cadre, etc, etc, etc...should all be prosecuted. We all know this will not happen...

Well, if I was a betting person, which I'm not, I would tend to think that THIS time is different (like the girls say about their boyfriends!). I actually think that it would be in the best interests of Leonel's government to crack the whip pretty hard this time, certainly to start like the new broom was sweeping clean. Now whether they would be able or want to persevere to the logical conclusion is a different matter.........if history is anything to go by, 1996 started out in a similar vein & by 2000 it had fizzled. But, my read was that it was the Baninter defence team pushing for these charges, not the government, & if the judiciary is independent of the government (!) then maybe cases will be at least investigated. BTW LIKE the new police chief telling his senior officers to return the recovered stolen cars they had "borrowed"!!

El ex jefe de la avanzada del ex presidente Hipólito Mejía, Pedro Julio Goico (Pepe Goico), salió del país el domingo en la noche con destino a París, Francia.
Goico salió por el aeropuerto internacional Las Américas, Doctor José Francisco Peña Gómez, en el vuelo 495 de la aerolínea Air France, a las 9:05 de la noche del pasado domingo.
El ex coronel viajó en momentos en que los abogados del bufete Pelegrín Castillo han planteado el examen de las operaciones hechas con la tarjeta de crédito que Baninter le asignó y que supuestamente fue utilizada para compras millonarias en favor del ex presidente Mejía.
De inmediato, Vinicio Castillo Semán, miembro de la barra de la defensa de Ramón Báez Figueroa, dijo que ‘‘resulta extraño que Pepe Goico haya salido del país en momentos en que nuestro bufete ha anunciado públicamente que el escrutinio judicial de la tarjeta de Pepe Goico y de Hipólito Mejía, será el eje central de la contraofensiva que iniciarán en relación con el caso Baninter’’.
Anunció que preparan iniciativas para las próximas semanas, en las que buscan que se lleve a cabo el escrutinio judicial de todo el uso de la tarjeta asignada a Goico y con la cual alegadamente se favorecía al ex presidente Mejía.

Recordó que al jefe de la avanzada de Hipólito Mejía le fue cancelado el visado norteamericano, además de que está bajo investigación por una serie de situaciones importantes del caso Baninter. ‘‘Nosotros entendemos que es un hecho muy preocupante, porque para nadie es un secreto que la defensa de Ramón Báez Figueroa ha estado planteando públicamente que está preparando iniciativas para las próximas semanas que van a apuntar precisamente al escrutinio judicial de todo el uso de la tarjeta del ex presidente de la República, Hipólito Mejía, que manejaba el coronel Pepe’’, apuntó Castillo Semán.

Well...........according to El Caribe yesterday, the Baez Figueroa defence team (Baninter case) are waiting for the Camara de Calificacion to decide whether Hippo will be charged with covering up in the Pepe Goico case. Not only Hippo, but Goico, Malkum, Eligio Jacquez & others. There was also something about Pastora Mendez & others being implicated in embezzlement, I believe. Vamos a ver!!
