Chickens, Pigs, and Eggs: PPH
PPH - Pollos, Puercos y Huevos. There is disturbing news published today in “Hoy”, indicating there are hundreds of poultry farmers declaring bankruptcy. The factors link the cause to: high electrical costs, the rise of the dollar, high bank interest rates, costs of feeding birds and animals. It is costing the farmers more to raise their animals than what they receive at time of sale. It is costing them RD$ 10.25 to produce a chicken vs. a RD$ 8.00 selling price and the pigs farmers has figures of RD$ 27.45 per kilo and have losses of RD$ 8.00 per kilo at time of sale. You do not need any IMF or World Bank index numbers mumbo-jumbo for the general public to see the economy of the D.R. is unstable. The Mejia government needs to get away from the pork barrel politics and pay attention to the real pork barrels before the whole economy is undermined and brought to disaster. What other simple indicators does the government need to see in order to face its responsibilities and take the drastic measures required to save the country. Regards, PJT |
