Thank you all so much for your responses.

It is unfortunate for the Dominican people, that it is so hard for outsiders to help. I am hoping that this will change someday.

Carmine and I are going to visit Cabarete sooner than we had planned so we may deliver the supplies ourselves.

Debra,
There are Mission folks here who may be able to help out. The local vet in Sosua is an admistrator of such a mission. They have a place that can handle and receive items by mail etc. that you might wish to send. They are also able to provide tax credit letters in certain cases. Currently they would love to receive a battery operated REFRACTOMETER to be used in the remote villages by the madical staff. (I am told the refractometer is able to somehow measure eyeglass prescriptions from the exam) We are currently attempting to get a group or persons involved who might wish to secure such a device.
I am not sure if they would handle something such as what you request, but they build many schools, houses, feed many people, and provide medical help throughout the country.
you can e-mail me if you would like,we are just starting to get involved in any help we can give them. I certainly will forward the information to him if you so desire.

Debra, I live in Cabarete and would gladly collect the items and deliver them to the school.

We have an EPS address which goes via Miami and this is quite expensive to use. How heavy is the package that you want to send? If you are interested, let me know and I can give you further details.

An alternative is if someone coming on vacation would be willing to bring the items with them on the plane. If we can then arrange to meet, I'll collect the items and deliver to the school.

Default Getting supplies to Cabarete?
My husband and I met 5 shoe shine boys when we visited Cabarete 3/1/03. We brought them to Casa Nelson in PP and bought them their first pair of sneakers, some shorts, T shirts and socks.

The next day we were invited to thier Casa and met their families. They live on a road on the left heading to pp, just past the center of Cabarete. They were friendly and offered us coconuts and cafe. The families and school could use supplies that we would like to send. Penciles, pads, chalk, shoes clothes and are wondering the best way to send them.

In Cabarete we met the woman who ownes Dick's backery and she was very helpful, because we do not speak Spanish it was difficult to get exact instuctions.
I know if we can get a package to her she will see the boys and the school get the supplies.

We went to the Fed-EX and Western Union business in Cabarete and my husband was still confused about the instructions.

The only address I have to send things is Dick German Bakery, Cabarete Center. I have no zip code. Will this work?

Thank you for any help you can provide. _Debra
