Idnew, so you don't like what he did for disabled americans (ADA), poor children without health care (SCHIP), Medicare, Medicaid, 1964 Voting Rights Act, etc etc?

Shame on you, and your knowledge of the Mary Jo Kopechne case is truly lacking.

Ducky, I met Ted when I was volunteering for Best Buddies (an organization that his nephew, Anthony Shriver, runs). The organizers of Best Buddies had a clambake for all the volunteers and the participants at Hyannisport and Ted came out to see everyone and talk to people. He was a busy man at the time (this was May 2003) but he took the time to talk to people. As my friend and I are deaf, he used the method we use to talk to us (not ASL, but CS), which I found SO impressive. Here was this guy who was probably one of the most famous Senators at the time and he knows CS? Wow.

His sister Eunice and I had a nice 10 minute conversation about the bike ride and education and such. I didn't realize it was her until my friend said, "OH MY GOD! You talked to Eunice Kennedy Shriver!!!" They were so lovely and very humble, they weren't snotty or anything and I've met well known people who were exactly that (at parties and not willing to be sociable).

You have no idea how much Ted Kennedy's bills have affected my life. ADA enabled me to get a job in the US. Ted was born into a very very rich family yet he did SO much for social issues for people of all political stripes.

The health care issue was his life's work and I am so sad he won't get to see Health Care Reform passed.

Ted wasn't perfect (Mary Jo) but his life's work outweighs what happened at Chappaquiddick. For the Republicans who keep bringing up this issue, shame on them. I might say, "Hey, you might bring THAT up but you ignore Bush's sending thousands of servicemen and women to their deaths in Iraq."

Accomplishments seem scant???

You have NO idea how much he's accomplished in his nearly 50 years in the Senate, over 2,000 bills. Title IX of 1972, Civil Rights Act of 1991, Americans for Disabilities Act, etc etc.

You're just moaning because you don't have anyone as good as Teddy was.

Oh really Rosie? I've met two of them (Ted, Eunice) and one of them (Patrick) was at my parents' house recently for a fundraiser (Patrick later met with my sister, a doctor, to discuss health care issues in Rhode Island). I also met Patrick and Anthony Shriver briefly at a charity that I volunteered at that they are also involved with.

I relate to the Kennedys because I'm an Irish American as well. I've also had tragedy in my family (suicides and murdered by the IRA even though my family is mainly Catholic). Many Irish people that I know feel that JFK really put a positive image on the Irish people (before they were discriminated against in America, No Irish Need to Apply in the paper appeared often).

We don't know exactly what happened at Chappaquiddick but Ted did plead guilty to leaving the scene (was sentenced to 2 months to jail, but that was dropped), went to her funeral and asked his constituents in MA if they want him to quit because of Chappaquiddick and they said no. He then worked his ass off redeeming himself- Civil Rights, Women's Rights, Disability Rights, Immigration rights, etc etc.

Rosie, you really need to read more into the Kennedy family. Ted himself ensured that I wouldn't be discriminated in my school (Title IX of 1972, Americans for Disabilities Act). He also worked with Veterans and health care issues.

Can you NAME one Senator who did these significant pieces of legislature that benefited people (especially the poor, disabled, women, children, veterans, etc, etc)?

Just one.

I bet you can't.

Stop pissing on the grave of a wonderful man.

Sis you talking to the brick wall again who personally knows every subject that is posted and the people you're talking about. If this was McCain that had died she'd be trashing him in spite of all the great things he's acomplished. Of course he had to straighten his butt up and hope people would forget about Mary Jo. Funny that was the first thing that the MSM mentioned after he died.

ROT IN HELL TEDDY for getting by with murder.

no, Z, i don't need to read more about the kennedy's.. i LIVED it.. i was 13 when he killed mary jo.. i remember it quite well.. it was all over the news for weeks.. then .. suddenly.. nothing.. not a word.. never spoken again.. how much did old joe have to spend to hush that up eh??.. can only imagine the millions he had to shell out at the time to hush it all up.. and yet.. didn't do any good did it.. the PEOPLE remember..

he's lucky and the only smart thing he ever did was NOT run for president.. otherwise he'd have been shot along with his two brothers. no one wanted another kennedy in the white house and still dont.. camelot or not, they are bad seeds..and no amount of money will ever cover that up.

As for u meeting them in person and having the scumsuckers to ur house, well i can only feel pity for u that u are still such a lemming. and for ur info, i'm also scotch/irish on my father's side, german on my mothers, and i don't give a whitsdamm wut he did after he killed mary jo.. if he had taken proper punishment for that.. like a few years in jail.. then i would say ok, he's paid his debt to society and to mary jo's memory.. but he never did. .never said so much as i'm sorry to her family.. never spoke of it again.. never was punished for it.. so to Hell with him. He doesn't deserve any praise, don't care what he mite have tried to do later. Doesn't matter one whit.. he should have paid his price to society for her death and he never did. hmph.

I have one of my parents with Patrick but I don't have their permission to post it here.

I'm still wondering if you had any senators that did so much for social rights for your side?
