Great post Ole...I have forgotten many of those people but seeing their names brought it back. It's a shame that some of the more important people, like Janet Barnes and others will miss out on the reunion but the venue is great but small and has a legal capacity and tickets went really fast. On another note: check out the blog on www.coastaljazz.ca for a very personal reminiscence on the Joint. Scroll down and you'll find it.

I see it's sold out. Too bad. I have been saving my money so I could afford to come to Vancouver for this event since it's such a big deal for me and the CJ was such an important part of my life. Despite the difficulty and expense, I think I'll still make the trip since I have been planning it for so long. I'll go for a walk by the old premises and reminisce by myself and hopefully I'll also run into some people from the "CJ days" while I'm down there. Nobody plays music where I live now, so a visit to Vancouver could also be an opportunity to do what I love most.

I really enjoyed your memories of the Joint Gavin
![]() The CJ was many life altering experiences for me in so many ways it isn't funny. It was actually like a culture shock, coming from where I was coming from. The CJ is the first time I ever listened to Jazz, at first I didn't like a lot of it (ouch LOL) but then grew to love it all, and appreciate a little bit, how special (including historically), and difficult, jazz is. Personnally I "dig" almost every kind of music making there is. They're all like different languages and so personal to its roots. Regards the reunion, I can't help thinking how wonderful it would be to make an ANNUAL happening CJ Reunion type thing, creating an annual tradition where people can know and expect in advance and can plan. Maybe even someone with large space, yard, acorage to host an open BYOB and food, done over a summery weekend, and people volunteering their help to prep and set up, then clean up after. Etc. The Joint always had people who loved to volunteer just to help and to be there because they got a lot out of going to The Joint ![]() These are all just my free flow thoughts. I know if I were at the Coast I'd volunteer time and energy in a heartbeat. I think others would too. The Joint is the bond that links us all to time and place, FAMILY. Bonds never died off when the Joint closed its doors ![]() |
