When I was living on a ranch nearby 25 years ago (now fully developed) some knucklehead killed a large doe in the back pasture and just left her laying there. Exact same thing as you experienced. Absolutely worthless human...

Look on the bright side. Now you have lots of dog food! I don't care much for deer anyways. Too destructive to my orchard although not as bad as bears...

so I assume this is a neighbor that shot it, and it ran onto your land and died?
Do you give your neighbors permission to come onto your land to get their game?

Where I used to hunt deer, there was one neighbor that owned 100 acres (we hunted on 150) that bordered the property. We not only didn't have permission, we had explicit instructions that we were NOT allowed on her property to hunt or even retrieve wounded game that went onto that property. I hit a deer (which I know was a lung shot from the blood trail...frothy with air in it) with a muzzle loader. The deer ran PAST me (had my back to the property we weren't allowed on) and onto that property. I was already told I WAS NOT allowed on that property so I did not retrieve the dead animal. I respected the property owners instructions and rights to their own property and a wasted animal was the result of their wishes. Do you have such restrictions?

Most deer do not die on the spot, especially with bows, muzzle loaders, and anything other then a powerful center fire rifle.

I will always allow someone to get a deer from my land in that case. But they better ask before each time the try it. I don't much care for people traipsing across my land with rifles unless I know exactly what they're up to.

No BC , and all of the property around me is vacant nobody lives up here, for miles and miles up on top is BLM so its possible it got shot up there and made its way back here.

People are stupid when it comes to hunting. I have stopped people on the dirt road they are usually from big cities like Los Angeles, most are lazy and want to shoot out the window, to bad they are to lazy to track a deer they shot, If its not easy they don't care.

Shes good K-os, we have had lots of talks about the animals, and how everything and everyone will die sooner or later, and how I don't mind hunting if you need the meat, but don't kill something for the fun of it.

Deer will run down hill when wounded. From the pic it looks like that lil buck was hit too far back and bit high from the kill zone?

Spinal tap drops them in their tracks...appears to be a thrill kill.

Yep. Right in their tracks, if you hit the spine. A couple of years ago my broher popped one back and a bit high. He was all depressed thinking he missed. I asked him if the deer ran uphill or down (ran downhill) and if it's tail was up or down , it was down. I told him he hit it. We did big half circles until we picked up a bit of blood. The blood trail got much better as we tracked and we found him bout 300 or so yards from where he was hit.

Barely missed the spine but a nice exit hole. .308...

I thanked you for being neighborly yet protective, and for using the word "traipsing" correctly.
