Barack Obama's amazingly consistent smile
by Eric Spiegelman 2 years ago

Ladies and gentlemen, your President is a robot. Or a wax sculpture. Maybe a cardboard cutout. All I know is no human being has a photo smile this amazingly consistent.

On Wednesday, the Obamas hosted a reception at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, during which they stood for 130 photographs with visiting foreign dignitaries in town for the UN meeting. The President has exactly the same smile in every single shot. See for yourself — the pictures are up on the State Department’s flickr (link below). And, of course, compressed into 20 seconds for your viewing pleasure.

It's called 'willed puppethood'. Also known as 'howdydoodyism'. Look at me. I can make friends and influence people with my presentation skllls and my plastic mannerisms. I've spent years in front of a mirror imprinting this smile onto my brain, so that I can recreate it precisely for any occasion that will promote my career. Looks spontaneous, doesn't it? That's because I don't know how to smile any other way. And the words that come out of my mouth got there through the teleprompter. Do you like the cadence in my speech? I've had extensive training in neurolinguistic programming. What you should be paying attention to is that I'm a nice guy, somebody you could get along with and be friends with, even though I claim the right (and have the power) to have you assassinated for any or no reason at all. Wouldn't you just like to know who's pulling my strings? If I told you, it'd all be over for me. So try to stay focused on the smile, and I won't let you down.

Politicians have overcome body language. They reprogram their body language so it won't get in the way of the kinds of deceptions they use to advance their careers. They engage in groupthink that redefines english words to mean something akin to 'legalese'. Remember Clinton redefining the meaning of the word 'is'? To a politician, ambiguity means two different languages in the same sentence. A smile in not a communication of an emotion. It is a tool of manipulation. Here's a reminder from 40 years ago:
