Yup, you've got to get the cleaning kit. They are easy to clean, I pull the filter out every oil change and look at it. If it needs cleaning, just use the kit. The initial cost is high, but the filter is guaranteed for a million miles. It's a great product. I also use the K&N oil filter too. Supposedly that helps mpg too. I recommend both the oil and air filter together, that's how I got a good increase in my mpg.
