You can make a cheap gas mask by putting activated charcoal between two dust masks, and taping them together. It's a good trick, and you can use the activated charcoal for poisoning too (snake bites, methanol poisoning, and so forth.) I buy it in capsule form in case I get poisoning or something else.

This the one I have... make sure you get the adapter so you can use the more common 40mm instead of the 60mm size. I bought the ring adapter and a three pack of new old stock filters. The mask came looking brand new... never issued. If they are still available when I get some cash... I will buy two more masks and adapters.

It's a health food supplement and treats poisoning in general. It absorbs poison like a sponge and lets it pass through your system. It's also used in some gas masks, so you can build a cheap gas mask with it. I keep some in my bug out bag for both purposes.
